Clinical Consultation
Therapy asks us to make hundreds of clinical decisions every day. Some are straightforward. Others leave us wondering why a session felt stuck, why a particular client lingers in our mind long after they leave, or why we found ourselves responding in ways we didn't expect.
These are often the moments where consultation becomes most valuable.
My consultation approach is grounded in relational, Gestalt, and attachment-based perspectives. While interventions certainly have their place, I'm most interested in helping therapists deepen their understanding of what is happening within the therapeutic relationship itself.
Together, we'll explore questions like:
What is this client inviting into the room?
What assumptions am I making about this person?
What am I noticing in myself?
How might my own responses be shaping the work?
What feels alive in this relationship?
Where might the client's adaptations make sense?
What possibilities haven't we considered yet?
Rather than offering a formula or "correct" intervention, consultation becomes a space to slow down, think deeply, and develop greater confidence in your own clinical intuition.
I believe some of the most meaningful clinical growth comes from learning to tolerate uncertainty while remaining deeply curious. Often, the goal isn't to arrive at the perfect interpretation. It's to expand the ways we understand our clients, ourselves, and the therapeutic relationship.
Whether you're feeling stuck with a particular case, wanting to deepen your relational practice, exploring the use of self in therapy, or simply looking for a thoughtful space to think alongside another clinician, consultation offers an opportunity to step back from doing and return to understanding.
